The best time to do newborn photography is between 3 and 14 days old, but not that many Mums feel ready to have a newborn photoshoot that soon, that is why I offer newborn photography in the home.
I have a conservatory which I use for a home studio so I can use natural lighting for newborn photography which I feel works better, plus we can nip into the home studio for some family pictures and at my home studio in Knutsford I have all of my props to choose from. However I have had 2 children, one by c section and I know how it feels to not want to travel in that ‘window’ where you get the best newborn shots.
This is why all of my set up, beanbag and backdrop set is portable so I can come to your home and get the photos and you don’t have to worry. For a home newborn session I need to have a bit of information about your lighting so often ask for a photograph of your home so I can gauge how much light we will have an id I need to bring lights. I also will bring just a selection of props so need to understand what style of photography you prefer, do you want cute outfits, wraps, baby in a basket etc. This way I can make sure I have the props you need and we can get the best out of your newborn shoot.
Another plus of a newborn shoot in the home is that I can combine a traditional newborn photoshoot with a lifestyle shoot and get some natural images of the family.
Newborn Photoshoot baby boy and big brother
These pictures are from a lovely family, it was the first time I got to shoot them and was able to meet big brother and the dog as well as the new baby. I travelled to their home and spent around 3 to 4 hours getting the shots. Newborn photoshoots can take a long time as all babies are different and you have to let them lead the shoot and not rush it, if not you will have an upset baby.
Patience and safety are the most important things for a newborn shoot and I don’t compromise on either.
